... ... ... ... always use soap ... ... ... ...

In the late Seventies, Deborah Harry and Blondie were here in town for a few dates. At some event or other ... on a week-day mid-afternoon ... at a  ... (I want to say a book-signing (?)  .. anyways, something at a bookstore ...)  but a photographer friend of mine by the name of Tim McG. waited long and hard ... especially to "see Debbie" ... I am remembering that Deborah Harry had autographed his right hand with a black permanet marker. He stopped by my work afterwards and I took hold of his hand to see her signature. It was scribbled and child-like ... but ... sure enough ... it read ...'  Deborah Harry '. Being proud of my mate Tim ... that he had endured a lengthy line in wait ... in-spite of a ' sudden illness' that had pulled him away from his job ... I made mention to him that it might take a very long time for her autograph to fade from public view ... that they might notice it at his work. At this, he said that ... " Oh, I don't care about any of that !!! I am never going to wash my hand again ... I've already masturbated twice in the past hour ". I asked him where he found the privacy to do so ... then as I laughed, I let go of his hand ... and while I wiped my hand clean, I suggested that he might want to reconsider skipping the soap ... that the ink might could rub off on his penis. I jokingly asked him if was he masturbating when Deborah Harry sighned his ' John Henry ', referring to the child-like scrawl.  To this, he said ... " RI-I-I-GHT " ... then he moaned that " I should've had her sign my penis".
Looking back, I really liked my job alot and all that it afforded me... but I would have waited in that long line for Deborah Harry ... right there with Tim and whomever else was there ... had I known what I know now ... maybe I should have. For Tim, so very long after the indelible ink from Deborah Harry's pen has faded, this memory remains fresh and true and autographs itself onto my psyche's outback.
